CKFind Installation
I just finished installing CKFind on my beta Drupal site.  I used IMCE previously for a file browser add-on to CKEditor.  CKFind at first glance appears to have a good interface.  I’m going to test it out on the Beta site for a while before I put it on the live site.  I’ll let you know how it works. I found this good video on how to install/configure CKFind with CKEditor .  It was...

Installing CKEditor in Drupal. Why is it so...
or some reason whenever I install the CKEditor module for Drupal I have a problem with it.  It is not a major problem, but it is just a pain.  Any other module that I install, it is simple.  But for some reason with CKEditor, I always manage to mess something up. First, I’m glad they changed the name.  Because it used to be FCKeditor, but that was one letter away from, well you know.  But it is...

"Europe’s Minaret Moment" from New York Times →
Interesting article about Islamic people and Europe and the recent Swiss vote on banning minarets.  Article poses a lot of challenges that they face.  From the article, it doesn’t seem like this is an issue that Europe wants to face directly. They have ignored the issue at times and hoped that it would go away. But the Swiss, who are neutral, took a very strong position on the issue of...

Must have module for Drupal: CKeditor
To anyone just starting to use Drupal.  One of the first modules you must get is CKeditor.  It was previously titled FCKeditor, which thankfully they changed, because it’s title often looked a lot like a certain 4 letter swear word. CKeditor is WYSIWYG text editor that will automatically convert your text to HTML. It has many buttons and commands that are similar to Microsoft Word or any...

Swiss approve prescription heroin →
It is interesting on how the Swiss can be so progressive on their drug policy, yet so conservative on religious freedom and racism.  It is a radical program, one I could not see passing in the US, but it appears to be working.  You do not see people out on the street injecting themselves.  They have definitely contained the use of Heroin to certain parts of the cities where these clinics are.

This is very funny but sad at the same time.  Can’t believe this bill passed in Switzerland.  It is even worse that is passed by a wide margin the country

Why Biologic Drugs Remain Expensive →
“Those generic drug companies lobby just like the rest of big pharma.” Be interesting to see in the coming years if companies are able to make generics of biologic drugs.  This is a big unknown right now in the drug industry.  But these drugs are certainly contributing to high healthcare costs in the US.

Thomas Friedman's take on the troop increase in... →
I always thought Friedman was one of the best writers on the Middle East. I definitely agree with him on this article.  Really wish we could start the withdrawal from Afghanistan.  I don’t think there is anyway we can solve things there in 18 months if we have not been able to for the last 8 years. Democracy cannot be pushed on a group of people from the outside by military force, it must...

Starting to Learn Drupal
I figured it was about time that I learned some new technology tricks, so I am starting to learn Drupal.  I have some basic HTML knowledge and web development knowledge, but I don’t use it on a daily basis. Since my skills are getting rusty, I figured it was about time I learned Drupal since it is one of the most common CMS (Content Management Systems) used today. So far I have found Drupal...

America's High-Tech Sweatshops  →
H-1B are a hot issue in the IT industry.  Many companies say they need to hire foreign workers because there are not enough people in the US with the necessary technical skills for jobs.  Others say that companies are abusing this system and not paying workers enough or taking advantage of them. Great article, video and podcast from Businessweek.  Definitely thought provoking.  Hope that there is...

History of the American Healthcare System
If you want to have a good understanding of the American Healthcare system, you have to listen to this podcast from “This American Life.”  There is so much debate going on right now about our system, but I think it is important to understand how we got to where we are with our system. This answered many questions I had such as:  Why does our employer pick our health insurance options?...

DJ Hero, the next Guitar Hero?
I’m wondering how the next franchise Harmonix is starting, DJ Hero, will work out. I am a huge fan of guitar hero, but wondering if there will be as much interest in this as guitar hero. It seems like this will be better in Europe and Asia than in the US. But who knows, it could be the next great thing from Harmonix Here is a quick video review from the wonderful folks at PC Mag. For...

Vaccine Shortage is a Challenge for Obama
I just saw this article in the New York Times:  Shortage of Vaccines Poses Political Test for Obama.  Not sure why the blame of this would be placed on the President.  Private Companies are producing the Swine Flu vaccine.  The companies include GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, and Solvay (which was just purchased by Abbott). These companies all predicted larger outputs, but the yield has been much...

Net Neutrality and John McCain
Love the fact that McCain’s bill is called “Internet Freedom Act of 2009.”  I’m pretty sure they are deliberately trying to be mislead the American people.  I think republicans figure that if they put the word “freedom” in any bill it will automatically pass. This is pretty ridiculous, but leave it to Jon Stewart and the Daily Show to make American politics...
